D'Bridge edge out Cratloe in local derby

Sixmilebridge 1-14
Cratloe 0-16

Supporters and neutrals alike will agree that Cratloe left 2 Clare Cup points behind them on Saturday evening in O'Garney Park.

In an entertaining game Sixmilebridge edged out Cratloe by the narrowest of margins. It was a game that Cratloe could and should have won having outplayed their near neighbours in the second half. But with the winning post in sight Cratloe failed to convert a few crucial scoring opportunities and a soft free awarded with time almost up was pointed by the unerring Camin Morey to give Sixmilebridge victory.

Cratloe played against a strong breeze in the first half and trailed by 1-11 to 0-7 at half time, the goal scored early on by Caimin Morey who blasted past Sean Hawes from close range. Niall Gilligan and Morey troubled the Cratloe full back line early on but as the game progressed Philip Gleeson, David Ryan and James Enright began to get on top.

Damien Browne with 10 points was Cratloes scorer in chief including 2 excellent side line cuts. Sean Chaplin (3), Kevin Browne, Barry Gleeson and Aidan Browne also raised white flags. Gearoid Ryan and Brian McInerney and Jonathan Reidy tried hard throughout. Michael Hawes was pivotal to the Cratloe revival on the turnaround and was well aided by John O’Gorman, Sean Ryan, Aidan Browne and Oige Murphy.

Cratloe will be disappointed that they didn’t finish off the job when they had the game for the taking. Nonetheless the new management team of Michael Deegan, Michael O’Gorman and John Gleeson can be pleased with the performance and that there is potential in this side. There will be bigger fish to fry in the heat of Championship.
