Buzzers bow out to Tulla.
Junior B Co Hurling Championship
Cratloe 1-6 v Tulla 0-11
It wont be a case of final day disappointment for Cratloe Junior Hurlers this season. Unfortunately the Buzzers bowed out of 2008's championship at the first hurdle to Tulla on Saturday evening last in windswept Kilkishen.
Cratloe started the hungrier of the two sides and converted their opening four scores from play with Johnathan Reidy, James Enright and Ronan McGrath raising white flags. This was bolstered when Reidy, lining out at full forward, grabbed a pacey drive from Alan McNamara and turned his man to rattle past Martin Corry in the Tulla goal.
For all Cratloe's dominance, the breeze at their backs meant they would have to have a sizeable advantage at the break but Tulla, inspired by both the free-taking and an opportunistic brace from Raymond Stewart, kept in touch with any Cratloe scoring and trailed by only one point at the interval on a 1-4 to 0-6 scoreline.
The second half was less fruitful for the blues however and with only two Patrick O Gorman frees raising their tally, Cratloe played second fiddle to Tulla, who, with fifteen minutes from the whistle hit a purple patch of their own with Pat Quinn, Stewart and Trevor Murphy all getting on the scoresheet. Cratloe tried valiantly in the last few minutes to breach the Tulla full back line but found Martin Corry unbeatable between the sticks.
