Doggie Show - a res'hound'ing success!!!!
The 6th Annual Cratloe Doggie Show was a resounding success with hundreds of dogs arriving to Cratloe GAA Pitch on a sun drenched afternoon last Sunday. Dogs of all sizes, shapes, colours and breeds came to strut their stuff in the 20 fun classes organised by Michael Prior, Munster Dog Training & Behaviour School. Each class was very well supported with an average of 23 dogs entering each class. The 'Best Puppy' had 51 dogs competing whilst the 'Fancy Dress' saw a total of 58 dogs parade their fashion gear. One of the more entertaining classes 'Best Biscuit Catcher' provided the large attendance with plenty of oohs and ahhs as dog by dog was eliminated. Rusty, a Dalmatian was the eventual winner of this title going through 5 rounds of biscuit catching. The Doggie Show rounded off with each Class Winner entering the ring where the Best Overall Show Dog was chosen by Judges Paul Ryan & Paddy Halton, Jet FM. Jessie, a Golden retriever was awarded the title and owner Michael Mackey from Patrickswell, Co Limerick and presented with the Robert Manning Memorial trophy.
Elsewhere around the pitch there was plenty of activity from golf
putting under the care of Donal Ryan, penalties shots at the Clare
under 21 football goalie, Pierce deLoughrey, Football antics led by
John & Siobhain Gleeson. The younger folk heartily enjoyed the pony &
cart rides supervised by Linda Gleeson whilst the Hayes sisters spent
hours turning little faces into various animals with their skillful
face painting. They then went jumping on the bouncy castles watched
by Eileen McGrath & Noeleen Neylon. The bar b que and tea rooms under
the catering skillsof the local women were a great hit with many
taking time out to refresh and replenish with all the homemade cakes,
burgers and sausages selling out. The book stall proved a great hit
with many taking time out to have a read whilst enjoying a cuppa.
A great day was had by all and all funds raised will be spent on
completing the Community Sports Hall - an ambitious community project
undertaken by the Cratloe GAA Development committee. Even the weather
obliged and just as the show ended some drops of rain started to fall.
