Cratloe reach first Senior Football Semi Final since 1887

Cratloe 2-7 Lissycasey 0-6

Cratloe are into the final four of the Senior Football Championship after a comprehensive 7 point victory over Lissycasey last Saturday evening in Cusack Park. Cratloe were on top throughout and in truth the game could have been over as a contest at half time had we converted all our scoring chances. Two excellent goals at either end of the game were the difference between the two sides.

Cathal McInerney converted a free in the opening minutes, closely followed by a wonderful goal by Sean Collins, assisted by Oige Murphy and Conor McGrath. Cathal McInerney pointed a free again before Lissycasey’s three unanswered points to leave us 1-2 to 0-3 up at the break, after playing against strong winds and torrential rain.

Cratloe made the better start to the second half with a point from Conor McGrath and a brace from super sub Padraigh “Clancy” Chaplin. Lissycasey kept working hard and clocked up two points to reduce the gap to four. With five minutes remaining Cathal McInerney slammed home Cratloe’s second goal to kill off any notions of a late resurge. Cratloe were solid in defence with good performances by Barry Duggan, Sean Chaplin and Liam Markham to name but a few. The footballers go on to meet Kilmurry-Ibrickane in the semi-finals in 9 days time, but for now the focus switches back to hurling and our quarter final clash against Tulla this Saturday at 3.45pm in Cusack Park. Your support as always is much appreciated.
