2012 County Campionship fixtures calendar
The revised County Championship Fixtures for club sides for the coming season was recently launched following a winter debate. The County Board have been openly criticised in recent seasons for lengthy lay offs for club sides as they awaited the fortune of the intercounty sides. Despite early exits from Munster Championships club fixtures were still sandwiched into late September and October where weather conditions deteriorated and the County u21 Football Championship overlapped.
This season, the Board set up the advisory group to reach a balance for club and intercounty competitions without a long lay off. The Clare Cup league stages will be run off in nine rounds with Intercounty players available for seven. A break in Championship action will follow Clare's Munster Championship Semi Final vs. Waterford and will recommence 11th August.
The Senior Football Championship will not commence before the weekend of 28th/ 29th July. It is anticipated that Round 1 would be played on the weekend of 28th/ 29th July or 4th/5th & 6th August. Clubs will be given at least standard notice of the start date of the championship
beforehand.
It is proposed that extra time will be played in rounds one, two and three of the Senior Football Championship in the event of a draw.
